For YOU, with gratitude…

I was 16 when I was given my first camera, it was a Nikon FE.
One of the first things I did with it was to try and capture a drop of water
hitting a puddle.
The puddle was left over from a rain, but the drop was all mine.
I had an eye dropper, a release cord , a tripod and about 6 rolls of film.
( does anybody remember film?)
I spent an afternoon, with ferocious intensity, trying at first to get the drop
right before it hit the water, suspended in air.
Then I was focused on the moment it connected with the water,
that indented dimple, that moment of impact.
At 16 it was all about that single drop of water, and capturing it.
I never paid attention to what else was going on, just reseting for the next effort.
Now, here I am some 30 odd years later , camera/computer in hand
focusing all my intensity , not on the drop, but on the ripple.
I suppose that a great many of us reach a point in our lives where we sit back and look at the evolution of our lives.
The shifting focus and the way somethings change so much, and yet still stay the same.
The great connectedness of our thoughts actions and emotions.
My 16 year old is right now focused on the drops, he sees all these incredible gifts,
all this generosity, but he doesn’t see the ripples.
He can’t trace it back to the drop hitting the water.
Can I hope that some day he does? I want to lecture him so badly, and say “SEE?!! all your actions, all your thoughts, all your deeds have far reaching effects. Some you will see, and some you will never know. Choose wisely!” but I resist. I know that glazed over look he gets when I soap box.
lol
So instead I will soap box to you, dear soul that has stumbled here, to my little corner of the uniVerse.
I can not begin to tell you, the effects of your kindness, your generosity, your just being there, and being real.
These are things, simply things made with love and the best of intentions.
What you do, by giving and receiving and sharing, are the real gifts.
The actions that ripple outward and encompass the world in care. The spiral that circles inward and outward, that connects us
and gives us Hope.
Thank you….
from all of us here in the shack in the woods.
A most heartfelt Thank YOU.
The spiral starts with these:

Let everyone you know, not only the blogging community ( which is grand ) but friends and family.
Let’s give everyone we know and opportunity to see what Love can do, to know as I have so humbly found out, that people really do care, and that even the smallest act of kindness, can do great things. Let’s let them all have a chance to be gifted by the kindness of a stranger.
Thanks to you
from my heart, from my families heart,
you have made a difference in our little corner of the Verse.
and we are better for it.
Names for the gifts will be drawn on the 20th. I understand that most will not reach their destinations by the holiday, but they will be like belated blessings ( something my dear neighbor and friend calls them)

The raindrop – wow! – I dont’ even know you, but i can SEE you doing that…and wanting to pass the wisdom down – i so relate. Beautiful extended wisdom (ripple wisdom?) you have here – knowing that your son has to learn about the ripple effect on his own.

    Beautiful, beautiful post!

  7. What beautiful donations!!!! I have put this post on my Reader Shared list that appears on my blog. And I’ll also put up a post about it tomorrow. I am very happy you are doing this…a beautiful ripple.

  11. Just to say how wonderful the ripples have spread. To know that we want to connect with one another in whatever way we can is a magical thing.
    Peace and blessings xx

  12. I’m sure Mr 16 will turn out to be a beautiful person he has a good lead to follow. At 16 it is hard to see the whole picture drops of water and the ripples.

  13. wow – what a great post and a generous giveaway.

  14. WOW! I am impressed!

  15. Sorrow,

We are so blessed by you!

Thank you for giving us the true spirit of the holidays.

  16. Hey Sorrow, can we start a “giving circle”, we can come up with a tag/picture for our blogs and all that have them and all that enter will know, it is ok to ask…………………….

  17. I love your idea! What a sweet way to spread love!

  18. I also say thank you for the fun time on your blog…would be wonderful to win one of those prizes…..

  19. Oh dear Sorrow! I have been absent minded since finishing soul coaching.. and am slowly, slowly catching up on blogs.. so sorry I have not been around.. I am going through an amazing soul journey right now.. go to Inglewood to see xo ~
I am really stretched to the limit so i will not even promise a gift… but please put me down in the giveaway.. do we have to vist the other blogs to go in theirs?? I would like to give away something though.. so how about prayers, reiki healing and a candle to be lit in my Sacred Garden Space here at Inglewood? I could take a photo to send to the winner .. let me know if you would like that –

I had a mister 16, he is now a Mr 33 and a dad to two boys… they do eventually see the ripple… ya just gotta be a wise woman and grit your teeth sometimes.. knowing that you have planted the seed of wisdom and common sense in his soul.

I love you Sorrow and I promise once the silly season is over and i have been through my Midsummer, I will be back to ‘normal’ x0×0

  20. oops forgot to add my blog link :) xo

  23. “What you do, by giving and receiving and sharing, are the real gifts.
The actions that ripple outward and encompass the world in care. The spiral that circles inward and outward, that connects us and gives us Hope”

Hi Sorrow … I thinks you said it all beautifully, take a bow for being a special spiral*!*

  24. Goodness me what wonderful things to give away, and how wonderful of the participants to do this. Thank you.
    Rosie

  25. This really is tremendous, to get so many people together. I will put this on my blog as soon as I will update my blog. Really incredible!

  26. Wow! What a wonderful idea!

    Cheers to you all
    Anne

  27. Wow…….all those ripples from the drop of water….

Please exclude me from the drawing–I just wanted to say “WOW”. Besides–I got the bestest prezzie already.

    (((((((((((( Sorrow )))))))))))))

    Thank you.
And hug that kiddo really, really, really tight for me, will ya please.
    (that’s WHEN he’s feeling better, of course…..)

  28. The drop is rippling out..beyond the commercialized artificial giving we are bombarded with.

It is comforting to see in the blog world and in our worlds locally beyond the blog (especially with the economic situation). Of course, we know such happens all year…including your good causes!

I hope your son is feeling much, much better. You are teaching him about “the drop” by your actions. Those are lasting because they are lessons of heart..and you are etching them on his.

    Thank you for BEing

  29. Greenwomen said to come over and glad I did.

Thank you, these are wonderful posts.

I will link you on my blog as I know other will love you.

  35. Thanks to you and all who are offering these wonderful gifts!

  36. wow, this is a very, very cool idea…
and the many people that have donated amazing pieces of work…
each shows the true spirit of this time of the year…
    gifts from the heart…
i would be honored to receive any one of these special items…
its been a tough year for me financially
so seeing these people give so freely gives me hope…
thank you to each and every one of you for your giving hearts…

  37. My mother shoved me to your post. I was deeply moved by your story as well as what you are doing.

I work in retail so it’s been a rough one for business. That in mind, I have been filled with the holiday spirit more now than I have been in years. It seems that everyone is embracing what this time of year is about. Family, friends and giving what you can. The season feels more genuine that it has in a long time and it makes me very happy. What you are doing here is an expression of community and proves that people understand and care. Even if I don’t win anything the fact that there is proof of the good will of man is very satisfying.

    ~Aria

  38. Dearest Sorrow,

This is truly wonderful, and any opportunity to further the greatest Love is always blessed and magnified. I’m rediscovering the true depths of love for my beloved recently, and am seeing him from new angles and new perceptions. Quite intriguing… and we never really do stop growing, evolving and learning, do we?

Huge hugs and big thanks to Greenwoman for sending me over here!

  39. What abundance comes from giving and receiving. One never knows where the drops of one’s life will ripple out to…Thanks!

  40. You certainly have a way with words that touches the heart. Being the mom of two grown girls, I like the way you talk about the drop vs. the ripple effect. I’d be very happy to be in this drawing and I will spread the word to others via an email I’ll send out right now.

  41. Oh My Goodness, you all have the true meaning of the season, but lets remember to honor Him, whose birth we celebrate. Sice learning to Quilt I feel I have become part of a special group of talented and wonderful people. Thanks to Pat who introduced me to quilting and now the world of blog. Its such a nice way to get to know some of my fellow quilters. God Bless All

  42. oh oh oh am I too late? I wanted to donate an angel (you might have a photo. . .)

(and if there are any of those wonderful spiral mugs going, may I purchase one please?)

let me know on both counts

(think I’ve been reading the wrong blog of yours – totoally missed this!)

    XXXXX

  43. I just wanted to say that I think it’s just impossible for teenagers to absorb anything. They’re all about fighting and doing their own thing most of the time. It’s a hard time for them too and they will learn about ripples down the road.

Of course now I want to see your water drop photos from way back when! When I was young, I didn’t know what to do with my camera. This is a neat idea.

  44. I used to try to photograph forked lightning with my old 35mm…nearly as elusive as water drops.
There are many beautiful and interesting things here and some that I’d never look for but would appreciate as they would broaden my mind with new ideas.
One of my favourite songs is “Letter to Me” by Brad Paisley. My 19 year old son introduced this music to me last year. It makes me think I may have done this boy some good as I raised him!

  45. oh sorrow…do you know you make me weep more than any other….your heart must be as big as ten hundreds squared uniVERSEs! This simply blows my mind…I wish I had known you do this this time of year and all the rest as well- this is so vast on so many levels-I could have painted something, or maybe I still have something for this to give, I will make it up those stairs and look with different eyes, not my usual terribly judgmental ones, as it would be a gift of heart and surely I have that. I do not want for anything material but my daughter, oh my daughter, a special little goddess would make her so happy…can I put her name in? I don’t quite see how to do this yet tho perhaps to visit all the giving blogs….

I cannot get over your Spirit, it stands so tall….blessings to you and since I am a bit ahead of you on the path with the kids, let me tell you something….if you are raising a son and this generous Spirit has been within his circle of love all this time or for even a day or so, you have no worries, dear heart…he will be a giant of a man…but of course, you are his mother so how can he miss? I love you from the depths of my soul….thank you for being on the planet…

  46. this is so beautiful-this that you do.

thank you for letting us be part of it.

  47. :) what wonderful things!!!!

  48. Hey, cool idea girlfriend! I’ll get my act together next year and make something for the giveaway. The photos look fabulous. Guess I gotta read your blog now that I’ve found it huh? Love to Genghis, the kids and you. Yes I know you read the comments T.

  49. What a beautiful post, and what beautiful people for being part of this. I’m a friend of Coral’s, and thank her for leading me to this site. Lovely!

  50. this really is beautiful…all of the offerings and giving! i, however, find myself still struck with your words on the ripples and the 16 year old focusing on the drop. i have one of those of my own at home…oh, to impart “our” wisdom on them…but i guess they have to learn it for themselves, huh?

please do not include me in the giveaway…i have a wonderful knack for winning things and i am really trying to simplify and have more items leave my home than enter it :-) i absolutely love the spirit of what is happening here! blessings!!

  51. I totally just stumbled across this blog today, and it really filled my soul with joy. I feel that I was meant to find it. If you should do something like this again, I would love to contribute something. This is an absolutely wonderful idea to inspire contagious generosity among complete strangers. Thank you. :D

  52. Hello, I found you through my friend at Bimbimbie…I feel a strong resonance with the thoughts and sentiments in your post.

I would like to ask anyone reading this to pray for a girl called Caren, who is in a Brain Rehabilitation Unit in York, UK. Her husband battered her and then disappeared, leaving her in their flat, where she went into cardiac arrest and hypoxia. Her mother is a friend of mine and asked me to pray for Caren… and I think that as many prayers as possible for Caren would not go amiss this Christmas. She needs nothing short of a miracle…and I believe love can do that :)

  53. All I can say is COR BLIMEY! people are amazing. Great to see your idea take off, wish I had the talent to donate something ,maybe next year. Thank you for your card by the way. Love to you and yours xoxox :)

  54. i have tears spilling down my face…much like the ones that splashed onto my keyboard last year…but more so, because i’m in utter disbelieve (but believe it sister!) that so many peolple are spreading love through their creative spirit. She who watches us must be beaming with pride…

I am so grateful to be able to witness this Love spreading…and you betcha bootie that I’m going to spread the news (althoug you gotta know, because of my silence, there’s not a whole lotta traffic on my blogs)…but I’ll do what I do best and gab about it to anyone who needs to hear it…

…and don’t put my name in Sorrow…I’ve already been gifted by these gesture of unselfish love…

    peace,
    Lil

ps. btw, the first part of your post re: your son, i’m reading “the seven spirtual laws of success for parents” by depaak chopra…it’s enlightening to be sure…

  55. That is one awesome lot of stuff and so generous of you and your family and friends to give stuff, just so we can all know about the ripples. I am interested in all the random acts of kindness which I have seen generated this festive season here in cyberspace and have been able to contribute to some in my own little part of the world, which sure is good for the soul.
Thank you all for reminding me about the goodness which exists in this world today.

  56. hmm… seems my comment is awol :(

no matter, this is still a most heart warming/generous post, thank you :D

  57. I followed the direction Grace was sending me…..amazing, beautiful blog I discovered.

    Blessings to you!

  59. Was directed here from “Maiden to Mother” and LOVE your idea, Love the ‘gifts’ and LOVE your love for people and Really Love the droplet analogy and your 6 rolls of film, as well. (I remember film) ;)

    Fantastic!

  60. Thanks LIL!
your words made me cry! ( in a good way!)

  61. I came because the amazing terri said to take a look – over the years I have learned that if she says it’s worth it, it will be — and, of course, she was right! The concept of giving to the universe is so huge. Thank you for helping people to see it. Your drawing day is my daughter’s birthday – she’s worked so hard this year – if perchance I got a gift, I would want it to go to her.

  62. You made me think of the many times someone has done something that rippled out and out and out.
Thank you for a wonderful post~~ There is something more than just words going on in your posts. There is a feeling. It’s amazing, you are amazing.
    cried here too
    hugs my friend

I saw you have iSurvive listed here and wanted to let you know a great way to support this tremendous non-profit organization. I am currently trying to involve bloggers to raise money, and it is as easy as making a post! I am a survivor and have found great support at iSurvive. I hope you will help the cause by “Blogging For A Cause”. Here is some more information, if you are interested: http://mymonsterhasaname.com/2009/05/isurvive-blogging-cause-part2/.
