The weekend was long and so busy.
I am sure most can relate, it’s that plethora of Autumn chores.
The raking leaves, the cleaning gutters, shoveling manure, turning under the garden, cutting, splitting and stacking firewood, putting up the last of the apples and pears, washing dogs, and all the general maintenance one does before settling in to a long winter.
Sunday night we sat in the deep woods around a bonfire,
sipping hot chocolate and red tea, talking.
Like the wisps of smoke our conversation wanders here and there.
The teen asks me ” Are we going to do that thing again this year?”
Considering we were just talking about the fact that money is super tight, and no one seems to be buying much, I have no idea what ‘thing’ he is talking about.
” What?” I ask him bemused as always at his railroad train of thought that I always seem to be left at the station..” What thing? bud, we don’t have the money for much, I know you wanted to go see the grandparents, but It’s just not going to happen.”
“yeah yeah yeah I know. it’s okay. No I meant the thing we did last year where we gave away all those gifts we made to people we don’t know. That Blog thing you did.”
The light bulb goes on..
” You want to do that again?” I ask him.
“heck yeah! that was great! I want to make something really cool this year!”
and then the little one who has been slurping down marshmallows chimes in ” Me too!”
” You too?” I ask.
” Yeah! we can make something together again! and do the hearts!” she starts, and once she gets started…well on and on she goes.
~smile~
Tonight , I get to tell you how grateful I am.
Gratitude,
for these kids , and for you, dear reader, who helps me in this global community teach my kids about giving.
Teach them to care about the world in which we live.
Show them the difference and give them the wonder of giving
simply for the sake of giving.
It’s simple, really.
My family is going to make gifts, and they are going to give them to you.
Any one of you. There are no strings attached. No need to do anything other than come back here the first week of December and leave your name in a comment.
We will put them in a bowl and the kids will pull a name for each gift , and it will be on it’s way…. Filled with love.
For those of you who participated last year and won something, my kids said ” Heck Yes they can play again!” and if you feel you don’t want to, perhaps you can put your name in and play secret santa, and if you should win again, we can send it to whomever you would like.
I want you to understand the tremendous gift YOU are giving me and mine. You are giving us the opportunity to give, and give with creativity and love, from our hearts. You are teaching my kids and I about the joy of spreading Love, for loves sake.
What an incredible gift.
Thank you…
If your interested, here are the posts from last year,

Mel~these kids, they crack me up… at least this year they gave me more than 10 days!
LOL
sorry bought them tears!
You are without doubt one of the biggest hearted people I have ever had the priviledge to meet. And that you are teaching your kids to be the same is just the best.
love and hugs xxx
Firebyrd~ some times I am thrilled to see bits and pieces of me in them, and other day horrified..
lol
typical mom…
OMG….I’m SOOOO EXCITED that you guys are doing this again!!!!
Hey, everyone!!! I got the SOAP and WASH CLOTH last year and it was FABULOUS!!!!!
The bar of soap was so wonderful and had the most incredible smell!
And I only used it sparingly, because I wanted it to last forever….
(so I only bathed once a week)
HAHAHAHAHAHHA!!
No…seriously, lady Sorrow…I think this is SO COOL!
I remember how SPECIAL last Christmas was for me, just because of what you and your children shared!
It was beautiful.
My wish is that one of your other readers receives the gift, this year…so that they too can experience how SPECIAL it was!
BTW…I STILL have the heart your daughter made too!
Love ya, Sorrow!
X
Ron~ she shrieked when i told her you still had her heart..
Thank you!
those simple words made her day!!!
Love ya!
Sorrow the campfire in the woods sounded so relaxing. I’ll have to light up our fire ring soon. I’ll be thinking of you and your children. You’re so blessed to have them. I wish that I lived near by to share them with you as they sound like awesome young people.
Have fun making the gifts and who knows maybe I’ll receive one!
barbara~
Campfires are a staple here, like leaf diving , and mud slinging, an absolute must!
My little ones are fun to share.. they can say anything, and do anything that just is a riot!
Need to start a kibbutz… we could play all day!:)
A lovely idea way to teach your children and to share something you love. ((hugs)) You are a terrific person. I’m honored to be getting to know you.
Greenwoman~
What a sweetie! Can one ever brag enough on their kids? I am so glad that you are out there in he Verse!
You and your children are the most wonderful, giving people I have met. I think it is wonderful that you do things like this and I LOVE the gifts your kids made! Your son is quite talented. So, is your daughter, but you know, many boys don’t sew. My dad and my husband. The only 2 men I ever knew who could do things like that.
(((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))
Kim~ he’s pretty awesome, But also VERY annoying in that smelly teenage way! but I love them both, and this is such a wonderful family project for us. We get such a kick out of driving each other insane.
It’s about the love and the laughter..
Ya know?
((((HUGS)))) back at ya!
Last years gifts were all so beautiful and I’m looking forward to seeing what you will make this year. I have to put up that date in my calendar as a reminder to come and check out your blog the 1st of December. I don’t have the time to visit other blogs that often anymore, but this one I have to see
Susie~ please come and see! I know the kids and i are having a ball, Wait till you see there creations! LOL!
Hello Dear ONE! Here I am – just received your note on the blog
This giving idea is lovely and inspiring! I am impressed how thoughtful your children must be! It is wonderful they are doing this with you. I will check back to see what happens here
HUGS!
SYB~ oh you have to be creative to keep up with the little ones! other wise your toast!
Such a circle of love around that fire.
I’ll be here the first week of December, and all the other ones in between!
Thanks for sharing your world.
Gypsy~ Love the light of your visits!
Will you do something for me please? Give your precious kids a big big hug from me please, cant write anything else too emotional. ((((loveanpeace)))) xxxx
Mermaid~ Have shared your love with them…
and they send it right back..
ok, i got all teary too reading this sorrow…
i realize that compassion doesn’t start in adulthood, even now i’m trying to teach my 3 1/2 yr. old empathy…but it must be amazing to see your teachings in action.
really inspiring…please let them know what we think of them…
lil xo
LIL~ they have there moments, and I think the collective sense of humor that we all share saves us most days. ((((((((LIL)))))))) thanks for being part of my cheering / leaning group!
I love that! What a great idea!
Shalet~ GOOD! NOW come and play in a couple weeks!
pretty please???
I don’t think I knew about your blog last year..or if I did (ok, I probably did
) I just never had the time, energy, whatever, to read it….which I regret up to this day…so I didn’t get to participate in the gift giving…That is so awesome, but doesn’t surprise me.. that it is something you would do. We told the girls that we will be volunteering at the homeless shelter over the holidays after they got just a bit snippy that they wouldn’t be having a very big Christmas. I would love to do something like this but I just don’t have the creative supplies around like I used to. And it would be too prohibitive to buy anything anyways…So we are going to give one thing that won’t cost us anything..our time… I never win anything but I will cross my fingers and put my name in the hat for one of the gifts y’all are making…I can’t wait to see what you come up with this year…I hope you have fun in your creations….
irish~
oh you know the wonders that will spill out of here, heaven only knows! ((((IRISH))))
just reading this was gift enough, dear sorrow
I do envy you the sitting around the fire. . . I wanna toast marshmallows!! but, dya know what – again, just reading about it was enough to make me feel present, remembering and reliving. . .
the smells of a bonfire and its smoke, the sounds of the crackles and quiet murmuring, the feeling of the warmth on my face and the cold on my back, the sights of the flames licking around and the embers glowing, the taste of the singed mallows dripping off the end of a twig into my mouth almost burning my tongue
thank you thank you thank you
you are an inspiration, in so many ways
XX
ISLTV~
You did a much better job describing the feel of the fire, I am spoiled, and i know it, to have the woods at my back, and the leaves under my feet. Perhaps my inspiration is nothing more than a grateful heart?
This wonderful circle is getting very full, and i hope you all will join me in a couple weeks when we post all the wonderful love filled gifts…
Namsate
Sorrow – what a wonderful idea. Interestingly, I just got off the phone with both of my brothers whereby we decided to donate food, as a family, to a local food bank. No gift exchange for us (finally!). We’ve talked about this for years, but the economy is so bad, we can’t not do it now. Other people need our help and we certainly don’t need more ’stuff’ to cram into our homes. Paying it forward.
You and your children are a continuing delight and inspiration! So lovely that they enjoy the idea of giving as much as you.
Wow, what a wonderful idea; you teach love and compassion to your children and all you know so beautifully! I didn’t know you last year; but you can bet I’ll be in the that this year! Sounds super fun.
Happy Thanksgiving dearest Sorrow!
Blessings to you and yours. .
